Oral history interview with Joseph Motivans [sound recording] / interviewed by Howard Fredricks. 1993.

Motivans discusses living on a farm in Latvia during the time of the Soviet and German occupation and later fleeing Latvia as a child with his family in 1944. He details the journey to Germany, where his family lived in refugee camps until 1949, when they immigrated to the United States to work as sharecroppers in Mississippi. Motivans also describes his feelings about communism, his service in the Korean War, his education as a sociologist, and his career at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse.
